24th October 1798, Nelson arrived off Malta with Vanguard and Minotaur to have a look at the situation, during this time Sir Alexander Ball carried out a landing on the sister island of Gozo where 217 French troops surrendered under their Commander.
Nelson soon left after this event back to Naples, carrying the captured French flags as trophies for the King and Queen of Naples and the Hamiltons.
Does anyone know as to what happened to these flags?
