I'm belatedly catching up with a few posts on this forum! In June 2013, the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 made a visit to Plymouth in Devon, in which Barbie Thompson paid a key part. On the 4th June, they spent the day at Princetown, Dartmoor, in a commemoration ceremony to mark the 200th anniversary of the arrival of American prisoners of war at Dartmoor. Roy and I were very pleased to be invited, and after weeks of dreadful weather (snow at Princetown only a few days earlier!), the sun shone all day, and it was a brilliant ceremony. Magrath (or MaGrath) was of course the highly respected surgeon at Dartmoor POW prison, and had served on board the
Victory until a few months before Trafalgar, much admired by Nelson.
